About Finnish Typing
Finnish uses three special letters that aren't found on standard English keyboards. This tool makes it easy to type in Finnish with all the proper characters.
The three special Finnish letters are:
- Ä/ä - pronounced like the 'a' in "cat"
- Ö/ö - pronounced like the 'i' in "bird"
- Å/å - used mainly in Swedish loanwords and Swedish names
In Finnish, Ä and Ö are considered separate letters, not just accented versions of A and O. They come at the end of the alphabet, after Z. The letter Å (called "Swedish O" in Finnish) is not used in native Finnish words but appears in some Swedish loanwords and names.
Simply click on the character you need to insert it into your text. You can then copy and paste your text into any application that supports Unicode text.
